MT Dutton Studio is a New York–based architecture and design practice working at the intersection of architecture, interiors, sculpture, and material research.
The studio approaches ceramics not as decoration applied to architecture, but as architecture itself—a material capable of shaping space, carrying memory, and defining atmosphere. Projects range from immersive residential interiors and custom architectural surfaces to site-specific sculpture, lighting, objects, and installations.
Central to the practice is an interest in how materials can move beyond conventional roles. Tile becomes surface, structure, image, and ornament. Sculpture becomes part of the room. Sinks, fixtures, lighting, furniture, and architectural details are considered as part of a complete spatial composition rather than as separate objects.
Through highly crafted environments and site-specific work, MT Dutton Studio explores the space between building and object, art and utility, permanence and expression. Each project is developed in response to its architecture, material context, light, history, and inhabitants—creating spaces in which craft and architecture become inseparable.

Matthew Dutton is a New York–based architect, artist, and designer whose practice explores the relationship between architecture, ceramics, material culture, and memory.
He received his Master of Architecture from the University of Miami School of Architecture and holds a B.S. in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University. His architectural and artistic work moves across scales—from interiors and site-specific installations to handmade ceramic objects—united by an interest in the ways materials carry histories of labor, place, identity, and use.
His graduate thesis, The Brick Has Memory: A Material Archive of Labor, Violence, and Resistance, examined brick as both building material and historical archive, tracing stories of labor, industrialization, displacement, disaster, and queer resistance through architectural research and ceramic sculpture. The project established a material-driven approach that continues throughout his studio practice today.
Dutton’s work has been exhibited in New York City, Miami, and across Long Island’s East End, and has received recognition including the University of Miami Graduate Thesis Prize, the AIA Florida Bronze Medal, AND the Faculty Award for Outstanding Design Work. His work spans architectural design, public installation, ceramics, sculpture, and collectible design.
Through MT Dutton Studio, he is developing a practice in which architecture and art are conceived as a continuous discipline—using ceramics not simply to occupy space, but to help construct it.
